A note from the founder

Who’s Behind It

The thinking behind RoboticsUniverse.com and the PremiumBrands collection.

PremiumBrands.com brings together names I would be ready to build on myself. As its founder, I choose them with one practical question in mind: would I build on this? RoboticsUniverse.com passes that test because it gives a robotics project a clear field and a larger destination. A founder can start with one useful part of robotics and keep the same identity as the work connects to other products, lessons or people.

What changed my view of a name

In 2007, I acquired the press release distribution business running on i-Newswire.com. I secured iNewswire.com in 2013. In February 2015, after more than a year of negotiating and consulting SEO professionals first, I moved the business to Newswire.com. It was a decision about the identity of a business we were already building, with the practical work of changing its address and the materials around it.

The morning of that switch stayed with me. A prospect told one of our sales agents, “Oh yeah, Newswire.com. I’ve heard of you guys.” That was impossible at the time. It was one conversation, but it made the value of a clear category name very tangible to me. We could introduce the business with a name that matched the work, then get on with explaining what the team could do.

The business was later acquired in 2022 for about $44 million. That was the price of the business and the team’s work, not a price for the domain. The acquirer’s published filing records the transaction. The years between a name change and a business acquisition contain the work that makes a business worth having. A great name won’t save a bad business.

The names I would use myself

I bought PremiumBrands.com before I had a plan for it. Premium names matter to me, and waiting would probably have cost me the opportunity to use that one. By now it could have belonged to someone building on it, with no reason to sell. Taking the name gave me a definite starting point for the collection I later put there.

That is also how I approach the names I am open to selling. I buy as an end user. If I would be comfortable putting a name on a product, presenting it to a potential partner and using it in the email address that follows, it is worth considering. The names I have not built on yet are the ones available through PremiumBrands. My work with OnlineBusiness.com provides supporting experience in turning an online idea into something people can use.

Why this robotics name belongs here

Robotics can begin with a small, visible result: a machine responding to a sensor, a helpful comparison that answers a purchase question, or a builder showing how a difficult part finally worked. RoboticsUniverse is a name that can hold those beginnings and the relationships between them. The founder gets to choose the first useful contribution rather than forcing the whole field into the first release.

I like that combination of a direct category word and room to grow. A discovery publication could add a learning track under the same name. A learning business could bring its graduates into a project community. The common identity can stay on the course notes, invitations and demonstration table while the work develops its own depth.

The fix-it-later mindset treats naming as a task to return to after success. Returning to it means changing the email addresses, signage, documents and links attached to the name people already know. It also means the preferred name still has to be available. I would rather choose a name that fits the direction early and put the next stretch of effort into the product.

AI makes more of the building work accessible, which is part of why I put weight on a recognizable name. A new digital feature can be reproduced quickly; the exact address chosen for a brand remains a distinct part of its identity. It gives a founder one settled piece of the business while there is still plenty to learn and change.

If RoboticsUniverse.com fits what you want to build, the request form opens that conversation with PremiumBrands. If your best name is somewhere else, tell us which one; we also help founders acquire names outside the collection. The name is a head start, and the business remains yours to build. A premium .com is a trust shortcut.
